Basketball Drills: V Shooting Drill With Coach Tony Miller

In Coach Tony Miller's 8th Dr. Dish Drill of the week, he provides a great demonstration of a V shooting drill. Check out the full explanation below!

You may or may not be in favor of the mid-range shot, but the fact of the matter is that, at times, the mid-range shot is the best option for certain players in certain circumstances. So while it may not be a shot you regularly emphasize, it can be a valuable shot to have in the arsenal.

 

V Shooting

  • Start with a player on the wing.
  • The player will alternate directions – the first shot will be after a dribble towards the shot corner, the second shot will be after a dribble towards the elbow.
  • Take 5 shots from each spot.
  • After the first 10 shots, the player moves to the top of the key, alternating shots from each elbow.
  • For the final 10 shots, the player moves to the opposite wing, alternating shots between the short corner and elbow.
  • Keep score (e.g. best out of 30) to make things more competitive for your players.
