Escape Shooting for Dribble Drive Offenses with Coach Tony Miller

This week, we'll look at incorporating common offensive concepts into team’s shooting drills. Escape action is a popular action in drive and space and dribble drive motion offenses. Check out the breakdown below!

The player drives the ball on the catch, kicks to the corner, then waits to see which way the passer drives. On the drive, the player in the lane will “escape” out the opposite direction of the drive. Thus, “escape action.”

Escape shooting

  • The Dish will pass to the player in the slot.
  • Player 1 drives the catch, comes to a stride stop deep in the paint & kicks to Player 2.
  • Player 2 will drive the catch.
  • Player 1 escapes opposite the drive.
  • Player 2 comes to a stride stop in the lane then kicks back to Player 1 for the shot.
