Coach Tony Miller is back with another awesome small-sided game to help teams work on their dribble hand-offs. Check out the video and diagram below for the full breakdown!
Empty side ball screens and dribble handoffs (DHOs) are being used by more coaches in their half court offenses. This 2v2 game simulates that action with the Dr. Dish as the passer and rebounder.
2 v 2 Empty Side Dribble Hand-Off
- Offensive players start in the slot and corner, each guarded by a defender.
- The Dish will pass to the player in the slot.
- After receiving the pass, the player will dribble at the player in the corner for a DHO.
- After receiving the handoff, the ballhandler will either shoot it or drive then kick back to his teammate who is relocating out to the 3-point line.
Use constraints to force the defense a certain way, thus creating different reads for the offense. For example, give a constraint to the corner player’s defender that he must go over the DHO. This will force x5 to help on the drive, giving 5 the opportunity to slip out to the 3-point line for an open 3PA.
