As basketball season kicks off, it’s not the time to overhaul your game or learn completely new moves. Instead, focus on fine-tuning the fundamentals and change-of-pace with moves to stay one step ahead of your defender. Mastering these 4 side step options is the perfect way to do just that! Check it out in the video below.
Four Side Step options to master
1. In & out side step
Players will do a quick in-and-out dribble to fake a drive, then shift their weight into a side step to create separation for that open shot.
2. Punch side step
Players will start with a hard "punch" dribble to sell the drive, planting their foot and shifting sideways to create space for a shot.
3. Behind the Back Side step
Players will get into a behind the back dribble to shift the defender's momentum, then step quickly laterally to create separation for the shot.
4. Between the legs Side step
Players will dribble between the legs to change direction and pace, going quickly into their side step creating space for the open look.
