Would you like to know how to win MULTIPLE state titles?
If you’re a basketball coach, I would hope the answer is an obvious YES.Then I'd like to introduce you to Dorene Ingalls. A woman who has won a state title not once...not twice…but 5 times!
She and her program have also been Runner-Up 3 times, been in the Final Four 10 times, captured 10 Regional titles, 13 District crowns, won her Area Conference 13 times, 11 of those being undefeated and had 4 regular season undefeated records.
Pretty impressive, huh?
You're probably thinking she must be from a big city that recruits the top talent in the area, right? Nope. Her program’s town doesn’t even have a stoplight!
Dorene doesn't spend 24/7/365 developing her program. She even owns a screenprinting and embroidery company aside from basketball coaching!
With every coach in her state trying to win a state title, how can she make it look so easy?
After talking with Dorene, I was able to come away with a few concepts that she follows that has led her to success.
So what's her secret?
I believe the #1 reason Dorene and her program have been successful can be summed up in a mission statement her and I coined during our talk. She said, "We are going to work harder than any team out there." Almost every question I asked always came back to the fact that her team works harder.
Dorene also mentioned that it's important to get inside her player's heads and offer positive encouragement to each player from the starters all the way to the players at the end of the bench.
This is great but not exactly a groundbreaking discovery. So how does she get her program to work harder than every other team?
