Basketball Drills: Attacking the Switch vs. Pick and Roll
by Nick Bartlett, on May 10, 2021 8:48:40 AM
We're thrilled to release our first Dr. Dish drill with FIBA Certified Coach Moris Hadzija of Croatia!
In this drill, he focuses on simulating a specific ball screen situation that often happens in a game. Oftentimes players will simply "switch" on the ball screen and the ball handler will typically be attacking against a bigger defender who often won't be as quick.
Watch the full video breakdown below!
One of the best ways to attack during this scenario is by quickly swinging the ball to the opposite wing, popping out slightly and receiving the ball right back to attack the bigger defender downhill. However, it's important the ball handler stays patient and creates the necessary space to be effective.
As Coach Moris explains, this is a great drill to work on multiple aspects of you game:
- Ball handling in the pick and roll
- Passing
- Attacking closeouts
- Shooting off the dribble
Make sure to execute the drill on both sides of the floor and use proper fundamentals during each rep. As we continue to expand our Dr. Dish presence overseas, we’re thrilled to partner with renowned and FIBA certified coaches like Coach Moris to provide great skills and drills for coaches, trainers, and players to implement in their training.
