In this Dr. Dish Drill of the Week, Coach Tony Miller breaks down a great drill centered around players making quick passes to shift the defense and attack. Check out the video below for the full breakdown!
Boomerang passes have become popular in many modern offensive schemes. Teams will use a pass to shift the defense only to quickly pass right back to that same player for a quick attack (e.g., a shot, a pick and roll). Two common places on the floor for a boomerang are off a drive from the slot and from the corner.
Boomerang Shooting: Slot to Slot
- Player 1 receives a pass from the Dish.
- On the catch, Player 1 immediately passes to Player 2.
- Player 2 drives the elbow while Player 1 spaces towards the wing.
- Player 2 makes a boomerang pass back to Player 1 for the shot.
Boomerang Shooting: Slot Corner
- Player 1 receives a pass in the slot from the Dish.
- Player 1 immediately passes down to Player 2.
- Player 2 makes a middle drive towards the elbow as Player 1 spaces towards the opposite slot.
- Player 2 passes back to Player 1 for the drive.
