by Evan Davis, on Oct 9, 2016 3:24:17 PM
Coach Mason is back in the #DishLab bringing you another Dr. Dish Drill of the Week!
One of the great features of a Dr. Dish shooting machine is the ability to program your Dish to make a certain number of shots in one location, before moving to the next spot.
Keep reading below to see this drill broken down in more detail and scroll showing you how to use your Dr. Dish to train your players by running basketball drills that work on shooting off the dribble, ball handling, footwork, and consistency by programming goals with the "Make It" mode.
Dr. Dish Drill of the Week: Shooting off the Dribble
Body Positioning
From the very beginning of this drill, Coach Mason stresses the importance of staying low at all times, keeping your eyes up while handling the ball, and that you are squaring up to the basket and holding your follow through when you shoot the ball.
Programming the Dish: "Make It" Mode
In this drill, Coach Mason has programmed the Dish using the "Make It" mode, which makes it so that during this drill, a player has to make 3 shots in one location before they can move to the next spot. In order for this to work, you will need to have the shot counter equipped. Coach Mason has elected to choose 9 different locations on the floor, for a total of 27 makes for this drill.
Ball Handling
This drill is designed to work on your player's ability to shoot off the dribble, so ball handling is an important part of this drill. In order to work on all aspects of ball handling and balance, it is important to switch up your moves at each location. The more locations you have, the harder it will be to come up with a new move at every spot, so you may have to do the same move twice, but as long as you don't perform the same move in two consecutive spots, the drill will work as designed.
If you are looking for inspiration as to what moves to use, Coach Mason demonstrates a few moves in the video, but here are some moves you can use in your drill:
- Between the legs, crossover
- Between the legs, behind the back
- Between the legs, between the legs
- Crossover, crossover
- Between the legs, behind the back
- Behind the back, behind the back
Regardless of the moves that you choose to use, the important part is that you must challenge yourself and you must go hard during the drill. It does you no good to just go through the motions and not perform these moves at game speed.
Tracking your Stats with the Dr. Dish App
The cool part about the Dr. Dish app is that you can start and stop your workout right in the app, while also getting real-time analytics and a heat map that displays your shooting percentage at each spot on the floor. If you haven't already, go download the Dr. Dish app in the iPhone and Android app stores today and see if you can do better than Coach Mason!
