Basketball Drills: Runners Workout with DJ Sackmann
by Nick Bartlett, on Sep 7, 2019 1:30:04 PM
In this sequence, our partner and elite skills trainer, DJ Sackmann, demonstrates a progression of runners off of both feet using the Dr. Dish CT in the Dish Lab.
The runner is a difficult shot to master but can be incredibly effective especially when finishing over taller defenders. Game situations call for different footwork and DJ breaks down a great sequence of how to work on different runners to simulate those game scenarios.
In the first drill, DJ focuses on shooting off the outside foot which might be a little awkward for many players at first. In the 2nd drill he goes off the more standard inside foot. Last, he uses a "pinball" action to simulate a ball screen to get downhill. From there he executes a runner in the lane in a more game-like scenario.
Make sure to apply the fundamentals that DJ talks about in the video in order to progress faster.
Using Dr. Dish is a perfect way to work on runners/floaters as the the net simulates a long defender protecting the rim.
