5 spots 3 shots
Seattle Storm's 6x WNBA All-Star and Olympic Gold Medalist, Skylar Diggins-Smith shares a great shooting drill for players to work on getting a ton of game-like reps up in a short amount of time.
In this drill, players will be shooting 3 shots from 5 different spots. Players will shoot at the corner, wing, top of the key, opposite wing, and opposite corner.
- Players will shoot 3 different shots at each spot before moving on.
- For the first shot, players will catch the pass and shoot.
- On the second shot, players will one dribble and pull up to the left
- For the final shot, players will one dribble and pull up to the right
The goal of this drill is to get a lot of purposeful and game-speed reps up!
Flash to space
Skylar shares another great drill, Flash to Space, that helps players improve off the ball movement before going into their shot.
- Flash movements are great ways for players to create open space.
- When a player notices their defender playing help side, watching the ball, or not paying attention they have an opportunity to flash to a spot for an open look.
- Players will start at the corner and flash to the wing for a pass from the Dish machine and shoot.
- Players can also work on shot fakes and/or jabs to simulate movement for when a defender closes out.
heavy step
Check out the breakdown for Skylar's Heavy Step drill that focuses on hesitation moves and pace change when attacking downhill.
The heavy step is one of Skylar's favorite hesitation moves to use in games!
In this drill players will receive a pass from the Dish and dribble planting their left foot, opening up and turn their hips to attack downhill. Players will then shoot a variety of different shots like downhill finishes, and pull-ups.
hip switch
