Today, we celebrate National Girls and Women in Sports Day, a day to recognize the strength, achievements, and impact of women and girls in sports. Basketball is a place where female athletes continue to compete, lead, and inspire, showing what is possible both on and off the court.

Basketball gives women and girls opportunities to compete, grow, and lead. The sport is more than just games and scores. It helps build confidence, teamwork, and leadership skills, and it is a way to inspire the next generation of athletes.

Growth Across College, Professional, and New Leagues

Women’s basketball has grown a lot over the past year, with more fans, more games, and more opportunities for athletes to shine.

Women’s College Basketball has reached new heights in viewership. The 2024–25 season drew its largest audience since 2009, with many games seeing record-breaking numbers. Fans are paying more attention to women’s college basketball than ever, showing that the next generation of players has a strong platform to grow and succeed.

The WNBA continues to rise in popularity. The 2024 season reached record viewership and attendance. More fans are watching games in arenas and on TV, and star players are making headlines with their performances. This growth is helping the league reach a wider audience and gain the recognition it deserves.

The Unrivaled League is a new 3-on-3 women’s league that has attracted fans and media attention. Its inaugural season drew strong audiences and high attendance at events. This league gives female athletes new chances to showcase their skills and reach more fans, showing how women’s basketball continues to expand in exciting ways.

Players Who Inspire

We are proud to celebrate our Dr. Dish athletes who are helping grow the game and inspire future athletes:

  • Olivia Olson – University of Michigan

  • Allie Ziebell – University of Connecticut

  • Maddyn Greenway – University of Kentucky Signee

  • Laura Hauge – University of St. Thomas

Their talent, dedication, and love for basketball are helping young athletes see what is possible. They show that with hard work and determination, the next generation of female basketball players can reach new heights.

Dr. Dish: Supporting Growth and Development

At Dr. Dish, we believe basketball is more than a game. It builds confidence, teaches skills, and helps athletes become leaders. Tools like the Dr. Dish basketball shooting machine give players the chance to train smarter and improve faster. With the right training and support, women and girls can step onto the court ready to challenge themselves and reach their goals.

Looking Ahead

When athletes have the right tools and opportunities, the impact goes beyond the game. On this National Girls and Women in Sports Day, we celebrate all the female athletes who are breaking barriers, chasing their dreams, and inspiring the next generation of basketball players.
