As you prepare your team's off-season training plan, it's crucial to incorporate a variety of shooting drills that give your players opportunities to improve their shooting confidence and scoring efficiency.
We teamed up with Wisconsin Badgers Director of Player Development, Greg Stiemsma, to bring you 3 easy and effective shooting drills to add to your team's off-season routine.
Drill #1: 3-2-1 Shooting
This streak shooting drill from Coach Stiemsma is designed to test a player's focus and accuracy.
Drill Breakdown:
- Players will shoot from five 3-point locations: corner, wing, top, opposite wing, and opposite corner
- Round 1: Make 3 shots in a row from each spot before moving on
- Round 2: Make 2 shots in a row from each spot before moving on
- Round 3: Make 1 shot from each spot to finish
- The goal is to make 3 shots in a row at each spot
Drill #2: USA Shooting
In this multiplayer drill, Coach Stiemsma has players focusing on transition footwork and knocking down 3PT shots.
Drill Breakdown:
- Players start at the lane line extended positions
- On their turn, each player will:
- Catch and shoot a 3-point shot
- Immediately sprint to half court and back
- Catch and shoot another 3-point shot
- Players continue this sequence, alternating between shooting and sprinting
Drill #3: Can't Leave
Coach Stiemsma's last 3PT shooting drill is perfect for closing out any workout.
Drill Breakdown:
- Shoot from 5 spots: corner, wing, top of the key, opposite wing, and opposite corner
- Keep cycling through the spots until you’ve made 20 total shots
- There’s no set number of makes per spot just keep shooting until you hit 20
- No. 1 Rule: Can’t leave the gym until it’s done

Why Wisconsin Trusts Dr. Dish
Making the switch to a Dr. Dish CT+ was an easy decision for Coach Stiemsma. As a former NBA player and Badger himself, he knows what it takes to become an elite shooter — more purposeful reps.
"The CT+ offers so much more. With stat tracking and game modes, it makes training more engaging and fun, motivating our players to get up extra shots and improve their game."
