Behind every great athlete is a supportive community and the resources that helped them along the way. For Michigan guard, Olivia Olson, that was Legacy Hoops Academy in Hopkins, Minnesota and Dr. Dish shooting machines. Now, she's ensuring the next wave of basketball talent has the same opportunity to succeed.
With her recent donation of a Dr. Dish CT+ shooting machine, her generosity is a powerful investment in the future of the academy's athletes, providing them with a shooting machine to take their game to the next level. See more about the exciting day below!
Standing in the gym, Olivia shared with our team how it felt like just yesterday that she was a middle school athlete attending camps herself. The excitement and energy as she walked through the doors was a nostalgic reminder of her own journey. She credits Legacy Hoops Academy and her mentor, Rahmeen Underwood, for instilling the drive that helped her successfully develop her basketball skills.
Olivia's drive and passion for the game led to helping her high school team secure two State Championships, and earning Minnesota McDonald's All-American and Gatorade Player of the Year awards, and most recently Co-Big-Ten Freshman of the Year.
Inspired by the support she received from Legacy Hoops and training with Dr. Dish, she was moved to give back to the program that helped her succeed. When reflecting on the impact they had, she shared,
Legacy Hoops and Dr. Dish helped me a lot in my basketball journey growing up. I've used the Dr. Dish machine every day for the past 3 years and being able to get a lot of shots up has contributed to my success...my shooting percentages have gone way up from high school to college and my confidence. Legacy has helped a lot, I don't think I could ever give back enough to Rah in the way he's helped me. Being able to give even just a little means a lot to me."
Rahmeen Underwood, owner of Legacy Hoops Academy, is extremely grateful for the support that Olivia has shown their community and proud of the example she sets for every athlete that will walk through their doors. When asked about how the Dr. Dish CT+ will be incorporated into their training he shared,
We'll utilize it in our training sessions, it's really key because it helps us focus on other details. Having this equipment especially dedicated to us by Olivia and Dr. Dish, I want to build something around kids who can't afford to have equipment like this to work on their game."
Olivia's journey is a powerful example of what's possible with dedication and community support. We are incredibly proud to have played a role in her development and look forward to seeing the impact she will continue to have. It's athletes like Olivia who will inspire the next generation of players to chase their dreams and, ultimately, give back to the communities that supported them.
