Athletes all over the world have goals of competing at the highest level and strive to be the best version of themselves. Unfortunately, there are many barriers that hinder their abilities to reach those goals. Learning how to overcome obstacles along with turning your goals into habits is one of the best ways to make sure you’re on track for success.
Let's take a look below at 4 ways you can turn your goals into consistent habits!
1. Be Resilient
Adversity hits people in every area of life. This could be at school, work, personal life or in your sport of choice. For young athletes, it's important to be resilient during these tough times.
These days, it's easy for athletes to make excuses and avoid challenges. Having resilience
These days, society gives young people so many outs that it's easy to avoid resiliency but this characteristic is common in all successful people. When you’re resilient you give yourself a chance to develop good habits because you won’t give up when hitting roadblocks. This allows athletes to continue to climb higher and higher in their skillset and playing level.
2. Be Accountable
Accountability is a buzzword that coaches everywhere love and preach. The question most coaches face revolves around the idea of maintaining accountability with players and coaches.
The reason accountability is so important is because people who are accountable will do the right thing and hold themselves to a higher standard no matter what. Players and coaches that stay solid during tough times demand respect from others and raise the level of trust around them. There is no way players can turn goals into habits without being accountable.
When accountability is at the forefront of a program or a player’s mindset, they will always do the right thing first and try their best no matter the situation.
3. be persistent
As players get older there are more options with different training techniques and playing styles. It’s important for players to adjust when necessary but also be persistent in how they go about their training.
Working hard and pushing through pain and frustration can be difficult, but mentally overcoming this will make your goals more attainable by the day. As players begin to see progress and reach their goals they'll find themselves following a path and plan of success each time. In turn, their goals will simply become habits that they exhibit each and everyday.
4. be dedicated
Dedication is a defining characteristic of successful coaches and players. Dedication involves loving the game and learning to love the grind each and every day. Waking up early in the mornings to run or to lift weights. Being dedicated is getting an extra 1000 shots up even after your teammates leave. Dedication is coaches that take extra time to chat with their players after practices/games.
