5 Ways to Stay On Top of Your Game During the Holidays

The basketball season is in full swing, and we hope every hooper’s season is off to a great start! We know the Holidays are approaching, and this is a time to get a mental and physical reset, as your body is recovering from the first few weeks. However, it’s important to stay engaged in training even in these extended time periods of not playing competitively.
Not sure what you should be doing during your break to stay engaged? Here’s 5 things you can do to stay involved, even while getting a much needed rest!
1. Watch Basketball
The easiest way to stay engaged with the game? Watch some basketball! Whether it's your own game film, or college/professional games, this will help you stay engaged with the game even while you're not playing.
Especially if you're watching players other than yourself, look for cues or things they do that may be different from your own team/personal game. A few things to potentially pick up: Defensive rotations, communication, ball-movement, and off-ball movement. These are skills that separate high-level players from the rest.
2. Light Fitness
While playing in a true pickup game or intense physical exercise is probably not the best option during the Holiday break, staying active is definitely important. Light cardio or high-rep movements can be a great way to keep your body in shape for when you get back to practice.
That can be as simple as going for a few runs or going to your local gym and getting some strength training in. If you're looking for a resource to accomplish this, check out our In-Season Strength and Nutrition Guide which will help you maximize your time and performance on the court!
3. Recovery
Along the same lines of training, recovery is just as important. With the season being fully under way, and a few weeks of games already passing, it’s important to get healthy again for the second half of the season.
Whether that’s resting a few days to let your body heal, or doing specific rehab for nagging injuries, it’s important to get that taken care of during the break.
4. Hang Out with Teammates
Hanging out with your teammates is a great way to stay engaged during the break. If everyone is in town, getting together and participating in some sort of activity can help relieve some of the in-season stress, which will translate to on-court success.
5. Shooting Practice
A great way to stay dialed in? Getting reps up. This is a time where you can make small improvements to your shot, that can result in massive strides for the second half of the season. Focus your training on the spots that have been less than ideal to start the season.
The best way to do this is with a Dr. Dish Home - the #1 Selling Shooting Machine in the World™. You can get countless shots up in a shorter amount of time, while never having to chase your own rebound.
