A Conversation: The Art of Shooting with Spencer Levy
by Jefferson Mason, on May 11, 2020 5:41:35 PM
I had the pleasure and opportunity to sit down and chat with one of the more unique minds in the basketball world, Spencer Levy.
Spencer has been involved in basketball his entire life not only by playing but now coaching the sport and training hundreds of players every year. These days he does a little of both while helping players in his community and around the country alongside our long-time partner Jordan Lawley. He's dedicated the past number of years to specifically focus on shooting and teaching his philosophy to help build better shooters.
Check out the full conversation in the video below! It will definitely make you think differently about how you approach shooting mechanics.
Basketball can become routine and that includes training. Oftentimes trainers try a "one size fits all" and that isn't necessarily the best route for a player's skill development. Spencer approaches each player differently by asking unique questions and also studying every aspect of their shot. He has the unique ability to get players to think outside of the box so that they can perfect the mechanics of their shot.
Spencer also does an incredible job at helping players read specific angles and situations on the basketball court. It's extremely important to understand footwork and how to get open and get a shot up in difficult situations. That's one thing we constantly preach and focus on here at Dr. Dish: Game-like action and training. This gives players the chance to be game ready in every situation.
Last, we're appreciative that Spencer gives us a look into his unique journey and what he plans to do moving forward into the future. Helping young players achieve success and watching them become the best versions of themselves is the greatest reward any trainer can ask for. We want to again thank Spencer Levy for taking the time to chat with us!
Make sure to check out the included video for more great pointers on how to become a better basketball player. Most importantly remember to train hard, train smart, and train with a purpose!
