Building the #2 Ranked High School Program in the Nation

Recently I had the pleasure to jump on a zoom call with two unbelievably motivated and intelligent basketball minds. Pete Kaffey and Ed Gipson of AZ Compass Prep have not only have created a successful program but also built an amazing team culture within the process.
Pete Kaffey is the Program Director at AZ Compass. He’s been involved in basketball at every level with expertise in coaching, training, directing and recruiting players. Kaffey has worked with a number of players that went on to be drafted in the first round and have successful careers in the NBA. Kaffey is regarded as one of the best recruiters and talent seekers in the country and has found a number of diamonds in the rough players.
The man that runs the show come game time is National Team Head Coach, Ed Gipson. Gipson is a fiery, energetic, yet composed coach. He’s not afraid to call his players out and hold them accountable to his standards. I personally had the chance to watch him coach this year and it’s amazing to see how well he understands his players and how each player fits within his system. Every player has the opportunity to shine and is given the opportunity to go get buckets. However, defense is what Coach Gipson holds his head on. He credits much of the success they've had this year on their aggressiveness on that side of the floor.
Check out my conversation with both gentlemen below and hear how they built AZ Compass Prep from the ground up!
Both Coach Gipson and Kaffey recognize how important skill development is for continual success. Bringing in talent is one thing but helping them take their game to the next level is the goal. With the help of Dr. Dish shooting machines, the coaches at AZ Compass have been able to hold their players accountable and also give them a tool to help their players be better everyday.
Make sure to visit our website for more information on how our shooting machines can help enhance your HS program, players or facility. And like I always say make sure to train hard, train smart, and train with a purpose!
