Today we celebrate National Girls and Women in Sports Day today which serves as a moment to reflect on the remarkable journey of women in sports.
Basketball, in particular, has been a powerful vehicle for promoting gender equality and providing women and girls with opportunities to showcase their talents, leadership, and resilience on and off the court.
Looking back at 2023, we witnessed several key moments that underscored the growing prominence of women's sports:
1. The WNBA celebrated its 30th anniversary. The league's impact extends far beyond the court, inspiring generations of young girls to pursue their dreams fearlessly.
2. NCAA Women's Basketball garnished more attention than ever - several standout players achieved remarkable milestones and accolades from record-breaking scoring performances to national player of the year honors. This expanded visibility helped raise awareness about women's college basketball and provided greater exposure for teams, players, and coaches.
3. Cameron Brink was named MVP of the FIBA 3x3 World Cup 2023 after her defensive effort and paint presence led USA to their third World Cup title on June 4. The 21-year-old was instrumental in their World Cup run, amassing 39 points, 45 rebounds and numerous crucial blocks to extend their record for most World Cup titles to three.
We're sharing a few of our favorite highlights from women in the Dr. Dish Family below.
