Focus on Your In-Season Process

Now that the season is in full swing, continue to focus on your process—not just the wins and losses. As the basketball season progresses, it’s easy to get caught up in the scoreboard. While wins and losses are the most visible markers of success, they don’t always tell the whole story.
This is the 7th featured article from Christopher J. Wirth, our partner from No Quit Living and The Positivity Tribe.
What truly sets teams and players apart is their commitment to the process—the day-to-day actions, habits, and adjustments that lead to sustained growth and success throughout the season.
Focusing on your process means prioritizing:
- Preparation: Consistently practicing with purpose and intent, and
controlling what you can control. - Execution: Staying disciplined in executing your plays, strategies,
and drills. - Reflection: Analyzing performance to learn and improve after every
game, whether you win or lose.
When you focus on the process, success becomes a byproduct of effort, consistency, and resilience. Sometimes losing a game and learning from it can lead to a key breakthrough for a team. Success is never easy or immediate, but neither is growth.
Adjustments and pivots are a key component of a successful basketball season, and something that can get overlooked if you are only evaluating your wins and losses.
As you continue with your season, embrace the grind, trust the process, and focus on the small things. Many of those small things don’t show up in the box score, but they often have a huge impact on each game.
