How To Create Weekly Goals with Your Players

Accountability is a big term in sports, because being a part of a team means your actions are even more important because they affect everyone. To hold yourself (as a player) accountable, we want you to commit at the start of every week to the workouts you will be doing.
As a coach, this is an activity you can help your players with now, and even continue into the season. Creating weekly goals or commitments can be as easy as writing the activity you plan to do that day, and noting whether or not you follow through.
If you don’t have a calendar or agenda, you can create one on a notebook piece of paper - no excuses!
Here’s an example of how simple it could be:
M - 250 shots
T - weight training
W- 3 on 3
TH - Ball-handling and 250 shots
F - Rest Day
S - Tournament
S - 50 Free Throws
There is something about the act of recording your intentions that will help encourage you to follow through! It also allows you to look back and say, “wow - look how much I did last week!”
This important thing here is to offer frequent check-ins on your players, reminding them to check in on their own personal goals. How are you tracking? You are halfway through the week, have you complete half of your commitments?
