How to Mentally and Physically Prepare for Upcoming Tryouts

As basketball tryouts approach, now is the time to sharpen your focus and get ready, both mentally and physically. Success on the court begins long before you step onto the hardwood—it's about preparation, discipline, and belief in yourself. Standing out during tryouts isn't just about skill but also your attitude, hustle, and how you work with the team.

First, remember that you have 100% control over your attitude, effort, energy, and communication with your teammates.
Physically, it's crucial that you stay on top of your conditioning, drills, and fundamentals. Make the most of your time before tryouts by being effective and efficient in your training. The night before, get plenty of rest and fuel your body properly. And on tryout day, be sure to warm up and stretch well to physically position yourself for success.
Mentally, focus on the work you’ve put in and stay positive. The night before, replace any doubts with positive thoughts and visualize yourself succeeding at tryouts. Basketball is as much mental as it is physical, and your mindset will set you apart.
Right before tryouts, take a few deep breaths and affirm yourself: “I am ready. I’ve put in the work. I can do this. I believe in myself.”
One important lesson to remember: "Control the Controllables". Focus on what you can control—your effort, focus, energy, attitude, and how you respond to adversity. If something doesn't go your way, respond with a positive mindset. If you miss a shot or make a bad pass, don’t over think it. Focus on the next play, your next shot, and your next pass.
Don't forget to bring your best energy on both ends of the floor and give your absolute best effort. Let your preparation be your separation—We believe in YOU!
