Why Music is Important in Basketball Training

Basketball training takes on different forms depending on many factors - such as the trainer and player. Every coach and trainer has their own flow and vibe when working with players. Regardless of their style, we believe music is an incredible way to get your players going and we'll touch on a few reasons why below!
Music has been proven to help people remain motivated and focused when completing a task. This applies to basketball as well! I can recall memories as a player cranking up the tunes and working hard for countless hours. I had specific playlists for different levels of training. When I worked on my conditioning, the music was different than when I was working on specific skills. It was a way for me to train my body and my mind simultaneously.
Music is a unique way to get your blood flowing and pumped up! That's part of the reason teams from high school all the way up to the NBA play music during warm-ups and during training. If your team is lacking focus this may be a technique that will help players dial it in!
VIBE OF PRACTICE
At times, training and practice can become monotonous, especially for individuals who are athletes year-round. A great way to switch up the vibe is through music! Incorporate music during practice - trust me, you will see a shift of excitement in your players. I've personally had a Coach that allowed every player on the team to have a playlist. Sporadically during certain drills, our coach would turn one of our playlists on. As a player it was cool to hear the styles of music my teammates liked and it made practice that much more interesting.
Music can take a dull, drawn out practice and completely change it by simply pressing play. I can guarantee there will be some sort of reaction when it happens!
